ROLLINGSTONES DAVID FRICKE Say’s “Royal Southern Brotherhood: Louisiana Music Factory, New Orleans, 4/26/12 My first set during last year’s Jazz Fest was free music at the city’s best record store. Royal Southern Brotherhood is a band of notable breeding and heavy-Dixie intent; the quintet includes singer-guitarist Devon Allman (son of Gregg), singer-percussionist Cyril Neville (of those brothers) and drummer Yonrico Scott, formerly with Derek Trucks. That day, they played songs from a record I hadn’t heard yet – their debut, Royal Southern Brotherhood (Ruf) – but stayed with long after, especially the swamp-Stones opener “New Horizons” and a version of the Grateful Dead‘s “Fire on the Mountain,” reset in iridescent bayou waters.” Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/blogs/alternate-take/my-year-in-rock-at-last-featuring-chris-robinson-green-day-the-rascals-and-the-best-of-young-britain-20130130#ixzz2JZwkuZnF Continue reading
In December the band trekked through the Southeast beginning with Mobile, AL and New Orleans, LA through Texas opening shows for Gregg Allman. In some places the tour also featured one of our favorites John Hiatt who called the band a “Musical Extravaganza.” The tour was later joined by the great Leon Russell. WOW! Gregg, John, Leon and RSB’s Cyril Neville on one bill for one ticket is still hard to imagine but what great nights of music it was. With only a few days between RSB joined the Rock Legends Cruise with Paul Rogers, Marshall Tucker, Black Oak Arkansas and Foreigner before docking to start the “Southern Rock Highway” leg of the tour playing Gainesville, FL, Atlanta, GA, Macon, GA and then back home to round out the tour just in time to kick off Mardi Gras on Frenchman Street after the Krewe Du View Parade at the Blue Nile. New Orleans came to a rapid halt as MIKE ZITO headed to Dockside Studio’s in Maurice Louisiana to start his new CD that will be released in April just before the Royal Southern Brotherhood’s Live CD/DVD combo hits the streets in May 2013. On February 12 “TURQUOISE” the NEW CD by RSB’s DEVON ALLMAN is released world wide on RUF Records. In June 2013 CYRIL NEVILLE will release “Majic Honey” where he is joined by Dr John, Allen Toussaint, Cranston Clements, Walter Trout, and RSB’s Mike Zito for some full blown Soul Rock.
